Six main characters sounds like a lot to navigate, but Tayleur handles the different voices easily. There are relatively few satellite characters, so keeping tabs on the six viewpoints never becomes confusing. The writing is snappy and suspenseful; this is a book that can be knocked off in a single sitting. Unfortunately, the resolution of the two mysteries – who dies in the car crash, and who knows what the teenagers found in the woods that day – is problematic. The motives of Nico’s mystery text messager are not revealed, and their importance is essentially shrugged off. And while the funeral scene at the end of the book reveals the dead teen’s identity with a cleverly constructed twist, it negates the emotional impact that the revelation should have had as well as the ‘safety message’ that Six intended to convey.
